Set up Microsoft Authenticator for your work account

Updated October 3, 2026

Multi-factor authentication (MFA) stops most account takeovers, even when a password is stolen. Setup takes about five minutes.

You’ll need

  • Your phone, with the Microsoft Authenticator app installed from the App Store or Google Play.
  • A computer where you can sign in to your work account.

Steps

  1. On your computer, go to mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info and sign in.
  2. Click Add sign-in method, choose Authenticator app, then Add.
  3. On your phone, open Authenticator, tap +, then Work or school account, then Scan QR code.
  4. Scan the QR code shown on your computer.
  5. Approve the test notification on your phone to finish.

Tips

  • Set Authenticator as your default sign-in method on the same page.
  • Never approve a sign-in request you didn’t start. If you get unexpected prompts, deny them and call us: someone may have your password.
  • Getting a new phone? Set up the new one before wiping the old one, or contact us to reset your methods.
